Cream-coloured camper caravans and mobile homes fill every available space along both sides of the dead-end street. It begins by the gates of the scrap yard, and ends abruptly with a high fence, no room to turn cars. This street is home to the extended, close-knit families of an Irish Traveller community in central London.
Historically, Irish Travellers moved from town to town following the festivals. Today, the itinerant lifestyle has largely given way to the reality of the modern world; however, the desire to live with the extended family remains, and long established traditions of gender roles and strong catholic beliefs weave their way into daily life.
