‘Panchayati Raj’ in India is a decentralised governance system in which village councils act as the basic unit of administration - the foundation of Indian democracy. SInce 1993, when the Women’s Reservation Bill was introduced, more than three million women have become politically active.

This project documents the lives and struggles of a few such elected women representatives.
